Why Gibson stands out in the commercial roofing industry.

In the highly competitive commercial roofing industry, the key focus is price. But a roofing supplier has to bring a lot to the table to land the big commercial jobs. Gibson Building Supplies is a one-stop shop for commercial roofing and building supplies. We offer a complete product lineup for multiple manufacturers and can put together almost any commercial roofing system. But we also do so much more than that.

We asked two of the key people on our commercial team to explain how Gibson is different: Michael Pagliaro, Commercial Territory Account Manager and Caroline Delville, Commercial Sales Coordinator.

What differentiates Gibson from other commercial suppliers?

Michael: In addition to providing a competitive price, we focus on service. What we do differently is take a really personal approach to service. We communicate honestly with our customers, deliver to timelines, and give people an experience they come to trust.

For our commercial customers, we act as a single point of contact. We see a project right through from quoting all the way to delivery. They only have to make one phone call and we handle the rest.

Transparency is also key. I’ve been told by others that competitors would let them down or make promises they can’t keep. We do what we say we can do. And if we can’t, we’ll let you know and provide an alternate solution.

How does Gibson’s quoting process benefit commercial contractors?

Caroline: Gibson wants to compete at every level. So we put a ton of effort into every quote to give our customers the best possible price we can.

Importantly, we make sure that we’re not quoting on items that we can’t make available. We’re honest with our customers and let them know if there’s going to be a wait time.

We also make sure that we can back up our quotes. Many jobs are quoted six months out. We give them an honest quote that will retain the pricing at that time. We also make sure the material is going to be available and that we can get it within the time frame they need it.

Sometimes quotes go out for a project six months away and then all of a sudden they need it in two weeks. That’s when our team all jumps on board to get the customer the material they need on time.

Most exciting accomplishment for Gibson’s commercial team?

Michael: Recently, we just delivered our biggest commercial project ever. It was for a new customer heading up a major development located in South Western Ontario.

Gibson has an impressive list of top-notch suppliers. Why are they choosing to work with Gibson?

Michael: We just brought on Johns Manville, who is one of the largest suppliers of single-ply membranes in the US. We can now give our commercial customers access to a full system for single-ply roofing. They’ve done a good job of promoting their products and getting in front of architects and builders to make sure that their products are in the spec.

They chose to partner with us as we demonstrated how committed we are to their product lineup. They liked our culture, our approach to business and how we go to market with products. It matched what they were looking for in a distributor.

Caroline: Yes, we are now stocking all of Johns Manville’s single-ply products in our warehouses and all of the accessories that go with them. For larger orders, we have direct access to get the materials on time for customers. We are also offering very competitive pricing.

How does Gibson go above and beyond for customers?

Caroline: We never stop trying to educate our customers and looking to understand their needs. We also want to make sure it’s a positive experience working with us. We never want customers to go away thinking that we have not done our absolute best to help them out.

Michael: We try to go above and beyond with everything we do. For example, we’ve done deliveries that are far out of the area, as much as 6 hours away. The big thing is we’ll never say no! So that means we’ll always find a way to do something or get creative to help a customer.
