Delivery – Do’s and Don’ts

We spoke with Roger Milne, Account Territory Manager about best practices for delivery of roofing supplies.  What do you need to know to make your jobs as successful as possible with seamless material delivery?  Read on to find out:

Decide how you want to receive your materials.

There are a few ways to arrange how you will obtain your roofing supplies after ordering with Gibson. Either pick up your order from the location nearest you or arrange ground drop and/or rooftop delivery.

You can decide which suits you best, depending on the job and the size of the order you’ve placed.  And while pickup and ground drop delivery are straightforward, there are some things to keep in mind when arranging a rooftop delivery.  These involve more coordination and safety planning, so we prepared a list of items to think about before you place your rooftop delivery order.

Rooftop Delivery – what you need to know.

In order to arrange for a safe, effective rooftop delivery you first need to look over your job site and make note of the following:

  • What is the condition of the existing roof?  Has it deteriorated to the point where it cannot bear the weight of the new product?
  • What is the pitch of the roof?  Is it too steep for rooftop delivery? *The max pitch is 8/12
  • Access – is there roadway access?  Driveway entry access?  Do the outriggers have enough room to be set down away from flower beds etc.?
  • Overhead obstructions – are there wires and other obstructions that will prevent a crane from loading product?

Getting a look at the job site before arranging for a rooftop delivery is critical – but not always possible with the demands on your time.  That’s why we offer our clients the option of using Eagleview aerial imaging services through our subscription –  which has a built-in discount for Gibson customers.  It’s just one more way we look out for you, and help you succeed.

And finally – lead time.  Make sure you give yourself enough lead time to have your materials available and prepped for delivery.  Roger recommends 24 hours in advance for placing an order.  This ensures an accurate and on-time delivery – because we all know that having your materials arrive when you need them can be the difference between a good day… and a great day.
