Boost your roofing business with strong supplier partnerships

Strong man holding out a lightning bolt

The better your supplier, the better your business. Roofing contractors who want to grow their business know that strong relationships with their suppliers are key.

At Gibson Building Supplies, we partner with our roofing company customers to help them be more successful. To explain how we’re different, we spoke with two valuable members of our Gibson Sales Team: Adam McBride, Territory Account Manager at our Mississauga location and Heather Cook, Inside Sales & Customer Service Representative at our Orono location.

How is Gibson a strong partner to our roofing customers?

Adam: We do what we say we’re going to do. We know it’s essential to be on time to help customers run their businesses smoothly. So we always give you a time window for deliveries. If something is delayed, we’ll tell you right away so that you can plan accordingly.

Heather: Product knowledge is key. We know our products inside out. So when someone comes in who doesn’t know exactly what they need, we share our knowledge and advice. We’ll calculate how many bundles and how much material they’ll need based on their square footage. We’ll show them samples and help them decide.

Adam: Mistakes are very costly in the roofing business. So we ensure customers order the right amount of materials. Then we triple-check every order that’s built to make sure it’s right. This saves time, money and headaches for our customers.

Heather: Building trust is another big thing. I’m in our Orono location and we have great working relationships with our customers. They come in, sit down, and we talk about projects and the best solutions.

How does Gibson build strong relationships with our suppliers?

Adam: We’re the tip of the spear for our suppliers. We know that not every product is right for every installer. In our position, we can put the right manufacturer with the right customer. So the manufacturer’s reps can rely on us to sell their product to the right buyer.

Heather: We try to give our suppliers extra lead time so there’s no rushing and they can avoid any last-minute panic. If there’s an emergency, we’ll go to their warehouse and pick up the materials ourselves.

Heather: We also bring suppliers into each of our locations for a few hours so customers can come in and ask questions, see samples, and learn about new products. We also send our inside and outside sales reps on tours of our suppliers’ plants for a better understanding of their products.

What makes Gibson unique in the roofing and building supply industry?

Adam: We go above and beyond to help our customers. We’re in the middle of the supply chain between the installer and the manufacturer. To avoid broken telephone, we’ll get the supplier to meet with our roofing customer so that they can make the most informed decision.

Heather: As a company, our delivery process is unique. We map out our delivery schedule and tell customers a day ahead when their deliveries will be. Other suppliers just show up whenever. Our customers know they can count on us to deliver when we say we will.

Adam: We have an awesome sales team who know their stuff. We all communicate with each other and operate like a well-oiled machine. I call it “synchronization due to exposure” because we’re all so connected. All seven of our Ontario branches just hum along.

Heather: Gibson is committed to being a supplier you can trust. We all work together so that you can trust us to get the job done right. Every time!
